The Birmingham Sailing Club is a private yacht club located in Vincent, Alabama, on the shore of Logan Martin Lake (United States).[1]

The club owns nine acres of land on the west side of Logan Martin Lake some two miles above Logan Martin Dam. At this site, the lake is approximately one mile wide and affords excellent sailing conditions. The club house is located atop a knoll that furnishes a panoramic view of the lake and sailing area. Club house facilities include a large central area with a fireplace, men's and women's dressing rooms, hot showers, kitchen and a large deck looking over the lake.[2]

History

In 1962, Sam Caldwell, a Thistle sailor, tired of the long trek to Guntersville Lake, started touring the back roads of St. Clair County looking for a site to create a new sailing club. He and a fellow Thistler, Herb Hager, signed in August an option to purchase property thanks to the help of fifteen foolhardy souls willing to pay initiation fees to a sailing club with still no water back then. The Birmingham Sailing Club was incorporated in June, 1963 with forty-four Charter Members, many of whom had little if any sailing experience. Construction of clubhouse, launching ramps and docks was started in late 1963. The great day finally arrived on July 16, 1964, when the slowly rising water reached the foot of the ramps and the first boats were launched.[3]

Fleets

At the present time there are One-Design fleets of Thistle, Multihull, Laser, Flying Scot, Snipe and J/22.
