"Big Bang Baby" is a song featured on Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop, the third album by the band Stone Temple Pilots. It was the first single to be released on the album, followed by "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart" and "Lady Picture Show." It reached #28 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay. It was also a rock hit, reaching #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and #2 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. The song features an upbeat riff and chorus, which pays homage to the musical style of the 1970s. "Big Bang Baby" also appears on the greatest hits album Thank You.

Music video

The music video directed by John Eder features the band singing in a white room.[1] The most noticeable feature of the video is the intentional low-budget feel. The band appears in shots that appear retro and possibly tribute early music videos. In one scene Scott Weiland throws one dollar bills towards the camera. One segment features the band in a Brady Bunch-like shot, where each member's face is shown in a box of squares.

The band stated in interviews that the video, which was produced cheaply and shot on videotape, was inspired in part by the video for Toni Basil's song "Mickey". Both videos share plain white backdrops and are mostly performance videos.

The video was shot at the former West Valley Studios (Stage 1) at 9260 Topanga Canyon Blvd, Chatsworth, CA 91311. The studio which was then owned by CVI (Cablevision Industries) and is now owned by Time Warner Cable. The studio was closed shortly after the merger from CVI to Time Warner Cable (Communications).

In the Thank You DVD, footage of the band recording "Big Bang Baby" with producer Brendan O'Brien can be seen just before the actual music video starts. The footage shows Eric Kretz recording the song's drums outside while the rest of the band rehearses the song inside with O'Brien.
