Barranca de los Otates is a pueblo in Mexico. Its municipality is Zacoalco de Torres in Jalisco.
This town long ago was filled with many otates also known as Mexican weeping bamboo that grew all along the canyon near the river that flows through this small town. The plant was used to make baskets of many different sizes and are very sturdy and durable. The plant sometimes can also be made into a cane or walking stick by using the roots as the handle part, when made it will sometimes resemble an animal with two horns or ears.
The town has many beautiful sights. One of them is called El Cajon. This is a waterfall of some 7 metres (23 ft) or more in height. The site is between three mountains and there is only one way that the water can travel through. Another nice place to visit is The Peñas. There are large different rocks all contained within 2 walls.
The population is about 2000 citizens. This pueblo is too small to appear in a map. Most of the residents own caballos and most of them are middle class people. People around Barranca De Otates own land and grow crops there. The most important crops are maize, sorghum, beans and agave.
This population has 2 temples that of the Holy Cross (the patron saint of the town) and the sanctuary of the Virgin of guadalape, held on May 3 and 12 diciemdre respectively in the village there are many parties more but these 2 are the most important. This population also has a municipal office, kindergarten, school, primary, dif, square, civic, square garden, sports complex, charro, panteon, health center among many other things. There are several shops between these stores aborrotes, butcher shops, grocery stores, hardware store, pastry shop, some cenadurías and gymnacios one of the most popular ones are grocery 4 M (better known as chan) grocery Rubio (better known as shop lourdes and eli ) and Orozco and El Guero and verduleria (with dagoberto) butchery.
The pueblo has two surrounding sister pueblos called barranca de Santa Clara and La Barranca De Los Laureles.
