Barking at Airplanes is the ninth studio album by Kim Carnes, released in 1985 (see 1985 in music).

Despite strong critical reviews, the album stopped short of the Top 50 on Billboard's album chart and sold less than 200,000 copies.

The album spawned two hit singles, "Crazy in the Night (Barking At Airplanes)" and "Abadabadango", which peaked at #15 and #67 on Billboard Magazine's Hot 100, respectively. The 2001 reissue includes the Horn/Downes penned track "I Am a Camera", which was previously recorded by YES on their 1980 "Drama" album.

Critical reception

Barking At Airplanes received a fairly positive retrospective review from Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic. He described the album as a "cohesive and consistent album" and the "best she made since "Mistaken Identity", but states that it is more akin to the standard of Carnes' 1982 album, "Voyeur". Although he said the album meets a mainstream 1980s adult audience, he justified the quality of the album by arguing that "it fits Carnes very well, not just because her great voice sounds ideal in this setting, but because she does this music very well."[2]
