Art of Food & Wine Palm Desert

The Art of Food & Wine Palm Desert is an annual gathering of art, food and wine enthusiasts in Southern California’s Coachella Valley. The four-day event features food and wine tastings, art exhibitions, celebrity chef demonstrations, culinary seminars, music, shopping and golf.

The 2009 event was scheduled to take place from November 5 through November 8, 2009, but was canceled due to the recession.

History

The idea for the festival began four years ago at Desert Springs JW Marriott Resort & Spa, where, then Director of Business Development Tammy Perezchica noted that there were no luxury food and wine festivals in the southwest to mirror those in Aspen and South Beach. The festival's goal was to create an iconic moment to strengthen Palm Desert’s reputation as a destination for leisure travelers for sophisticated tastes. In an effort to do so, only 2,000 tickets were made available for the inaugural events (as opposed to 5,000 and 25,000 in Aspen and South Beach respectively).

Poster art

The 2006 poster art was created by accomplished artist Ken Joudrey. In addition to his work for the Art of Food & Wine Palm Desert, one of Joudrey’s covers for the mystery magazine Ellery Queen was featured in Secret Window. He has also created book covers for various publishing companies, such as Simon & Schuster and HarperCollins.

The 2007 poster art was done by artist Michael Bast. Bast was honored when the industry bestowed the coveted Clio award for a project he did for Kraft. Past clients include Procter & Gamble, SC Johnson, Post, Oscar Mayer and Wal-Mart.

The 2008 poster art was created by Steve Nozicka.
