Armen Sevada Gharabegian - Inventor, Industrial Designer, and Entrepreneur

Armen Sevada Gharabegian is an American Inventor, industrial designer, and entrepreneur based in Los Angeles, California, United States.

Early life

Armen Sevada Gharabegian graduated from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, receiving both a bachelor's and master's degree in industrial design.[1]

Career

Gharabegian is the founder and CEO of Los Angeles-based Lounge22 and Ethos Designs.[2] He founded [3] in 2001, a design and production company which to date has been involved in over 800 global exhibits and events worldwide, working with top brands such as Samsung, Ubisoft, Patek-Phillipe, Ferragamo and the Oscars.[4] He is the founder and principal designer of Lounge22,[5] a Los Angeles-based furniture design and fabrication company. Each piece of Lounge22 furniture is designed and hand-crafted in LA, and is made to order.[6]

In 2015, after seven years of work, Gharabegian released the Maximillian Chair.[7][8] The chair is manufactured in Los Angeles, meticulously handcrafted by expert artisans. It is constructed of stainless steel, polished to a mirror finish.[9] Gharabegian explains the inspiration behind the Maximillian Chair: "when my second son, Maximillian, was born, I took it upon myself to create an object that for me embodied meticulous attention to design proportion and craftsmanship. I wanted to create something that could be as close to a 'perfect' chair as possible. The Maximillian Chair took seven years of design and prototyping to create. Each piece is welded from stainless steel sheets that are cut with laser precision. It takes six weeks to produce one chair. The fabrics are hand-painted and the chair's [hollow] structure is meticulously designed like a building. Each chair is numbered, and I gave the first of the 100 pieces to my son."[10]

Utilizing his extensive experience and prowess in engineering and design, Gharabegian started his third company, ShadeCraft in 2016 when he realized the void in the smart home ecosystem for outdoor products that connect users to the IoT. ShadeCraft is dedicated to intelligent shading solutions and changing the way people live outside of their homes. Gharabegian’s first smart home invention, which incorporates many of his utility and design patents will be introduced to the world at CES in January 2017.

Inventor

In 2010, Gharabegian’s passion for creating began to evolve outside of the industrial design space. Gharabegian began focusing on research and development in the design and engineering of electronics, mechanical systems, and software. He currently holds multiple design and utility patents in these arenas, and by his charge, his company, ShadeCraft has over 500 pages filed with the US patent and trademark office that include over 300 claims in utility patents, design patents and trademarks.

Industrial designer

Armen Gharabegian received both a bachelor's and master's degree in industrial design from the Art Center College of Design. He explains his passion by being inspired "by many things. My goal is to design objects that are timeless and complete in and of themselves. For me, this is the true test of sustainability: designs that are not governed by style or frivolous form. I guess you can call me a minimalist in some respect, although I have a great appreciation for many styles and types of design."[11]

Novelist

Gharabegian is a published author, releasing Protocol 7, the first installment of the Arctica Trilogy, in 2007.[12][13]

Artist and sculptor

Gharabegian is also an artist and sculptor who continues to pursue his passion in fine arts.
