Andrew M. "Andy" Slavitt is the Acting Administrator at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, a position he has held since March 2015. A leader of the team which repaired healthcare.gov after its problematic rollout, he was nominated by Barack Obama to run Medicare and Medicaid in July 2015.[1][2][3]
Biography
Slavitt graduated from The College of Arts and Sciences at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1988 and earned an MBA at the Harvard Business School.[4]
After school, he was a strategy consultant with McKinsey & Company and later an investment banker with Goldman Sachs.[5][6] In 1999 he founded Health Allies, a healthcare company, and served as its CEO until 2006, when the company was acquired by United Health[7][8] where he served as an executive vice president for Optum, a subsidiary of United Health Group, and CEO of Optum Insight.[7][8]
Personal life
In 1996, he married Lana Etherington; they have two sons, Caleb and Zachary.[9][10]
