Amin Rozani is an Indian Entrepreneur and a Poker player who replicated the poker business model for the Indian environment resulting in his fortune.[1][2][3][4] He rose to notability when his poker business based in his garage succeeded in India's small market of the game and expanded enough to receive journalistic coverage.[1][2][3][4]

Personal life and education

Amin Rozani was born and raised in Mumbai in a middle-class family of four. He has a brother, Vasim, who is five years younger to him. His father ran small iron and steel business. When Rozani was 28, he faced the death of his father and had to rent out his father's business while his mother, Yasmin, worked as a beautician.[1]

Rozani grew up in the Suburbs, Bandra, and attended St. Andrews school. Later on he moved to Andheri.[1]

Career

Rozani started his career with his teenage odd jobs until he switched to the BPO industry.[1] As a part of his career, he worked for Birla, Wipro, WNS and the Standard Chartered Bank.[1] By 2009, after he started playing poker online as a hobby, he was on the path to using poker as a commercial business.[1]

Rozani who was used to playing poker online on his computer, took notice on his visit to Hong Kong, when he saw that the games from his hobby were playing live and making money. He started working on replicating that business model for the Indian environment.[2] This idea was brought to life by starting small poker tables in a garage in Bandra, Mumbai.[2][4] Later on this garage became an affiliate of an online website, Royal Turf, in 2011. This venture lead to a significant up boost of the business which caused Rozani to quit his job and full focus on the poker business.[2] His poker business gained further popularity upon receiving coverage in a journalistic article, Shuffle up and deal,[5] by a reporter named David Shaffel[2] who covered him under the alias of Ratan Rao.[2][6]

Rozani is now partnered with Sameer Rattonsey and Rajeev Kanjani[7] for leading his poker business to expand in to other Indian states like Goa.[2][8][4][9][10] Rozani is a new entrant to the seasoned Goa poker room operators. However, he had success starting from the first IPC tournament in Goa.[2][8][4][9][10] According to Rozani, Goa is a place for aspiring poker players because of being a casino stronghold.[2] Reportedly, it is expected that the crowd at Goa tournaments would rise from the current 300 to a 1,000.[2] [11]
