Ahsan Watts, known professionally as Ahsan is a teenage soul and R&B singer from Newark, New Jersey.
Ashan Watts gained initial attention when his cover of Smokey Robinson's "Who's Lovin' You" went viral on YouTube and again after a second video featured a surprise appearance by Stevie Wonder that ended in a duet of "Ribbon in the Sky".[1][2] Ahsan credits classic soul and R&B artists like Wonder, Frankie Lymon, and Michael Jackson for inspiring him to join his grandfather the late Bishop L.C. Terry ,Sr's Fellowship of Holiness Church choir in Newark, NJ, when he was five. His godfather, Don Richardson, who had a contract with Def Jam Recordings as a kid, helped bring attention to his voice.[3][4]
He was signed by Interscope Records in 2012.[5] and did a cover of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", featuring Lucki Gurlz.[6] In November 2013, he released the single "Under", about his wish to not succumb to the streets of his native Newark.[4][7][8][9]
Among his live appearances are Arthur Ashe Kids' Day and at Stevie Wonder's 17th Annual House Full of Toys Benefit Concert in 2012.[10] He has performed in Newark as guest of Mayor Cory Booker.[11] and Newark mayoral candidate, Ras J. Baraka.[12] and Darlene Love at NJPAC.[13] In 2014, Ahsan is touring with Ashanti to Jackson Rancheria.[14]
