Early life

Ahmed Roshdy was born on November 6, 1988 in Cairo, Egypt. As a child Ahmed’s dream was to imagine stories and turn them into reality. From 2005 to 2010 Ahmed studied animation at Helwan University, He had the passion to study and understand the different types and techniques of illustration and animation. Studying there opened his eyes to how imagination can be realized through drawings, but this was not enough for him and that’s how he became interested in filmmaking as a next step to express his thoughts on a higher level.

Career

Ahmed started his career in 2010 when he joined a post production company as a Visual effects artist. Some of his work include the Egyptian film 678, directed by Mohamed Diab and starred; Nelly Karim, Bushra, Maged El Kedwany and in 2011 the Egyptian Film titled Asmaa, directed by Amr Salama and starred many Egyptian artists like Hend Sabry, Maged El Kedwany and Hany Adel. Roshdy also joined the team on Arabian Nights series in 2015 as a Concept Artist.

In 2014 Ahmed made is first short movie entitled Layl (Night), which symbolically tackled the idea of marriage in the Middle East. It was screened in six festivals, including the Luxor African Film Festival, and won one award and three certificates of honor. His second film was a short animation movie named Tarot that was awarded nine prizes in the 48 Hours Film Project in Cairo, and was chosen to be part of the final international contest in Hollywood, along with 550 films from around the globe. Although the movie was produced in just two days with no budget, it was also awarded a special screening in Cannes International Film Festival 2015. Tarot was chosen along with 12 other films to be The Global best of the 48 Hours Film in 2014 and won.

In his latest animation movie, The Unknown Sweet Potato Seller, Roshdy cooperated with actor Khaled Abol Naga and actress Tara Emad to produce a remarkable artistic piece that received funding from the British Council in Egypt in 2015. Shocking true events during the Egyptian revolution inspired the movie. The movie will be screened in Dubai International Film Festival as a world premiere in December 2016.

Ahmed is currently launching his own company "Roshdy Artworld" and is working on multiple projects including an animation series. He later plans to produce a series and feature–length film.
