The Academy of Engineering (AOE) is a group of high school pre-engineering programs styled as academies and administered by the NAF. It was originally a partnership between NAF, Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME) in the United States of America. The AOE partnership brought in the first group of freshmen in the 2008-09 school year. The first group of seniors graduated in 2012.
The thirteen original schools to pilot the program were:

- Frederick Douglass High School - Atlanta, Georgia
- A.J. Moore Academy - Waco, Texas
- H. Grady Spruce High School - Dallas, Texas
- East High School on Arcadia - Columbus, Ohio
- University High School - Los Angeles, California
- Morse High School Academy of Engineering MHS AOE - San Diego, California
- Patrick Henry High School - San Diego, California
- James Madison High School - San Diego, California
- Porterville Charter Academy - Strathmore, California
- Burton High School - San Francisco, California
- Northwest Career and Technical Academy - Las Vegas, Nevada
- Evergreen High School - Burien, Washington
- National Academy Foundation High School- Baltimore, Maryland
