Visakhapatnam ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, also known as the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, is a multi-purpose magnificent stadium in Visakhapatnam, India with a lush green outfield.
The picturesque ACA-VDCA ground in the city of Visakhapatnam midst scenic hills has hosted 1 Test match, 6 One Day Internationals and 1 T20I as on 21 November 2016. The stadium has a two-tier architecture and is designed in such a way that the view of the match is not obstructed regardless of the seating location of the spectators.
Ground Profile
The ACA-VDCA stadium is known for its lush green outfield and is one of the most well maintained stadium .The grass for the outfield was specially imported from the Caribbean. In addition to this, the stadium has a very good water drainage facility. The stadium currently seats a 38,000 capacity crowd and is primarily used for cricket matches. The stadium has floodlight facilities to host a D/N cricket matches. The stadium has hosted 1 Test match, 6 ODI matches and 1 T20I till date.
History
The stadium hosted its first ODI match against Pakistan, in which Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored his maiden one day international century (148) in 2005
The stadium also hosts IPL matches and was the home ground of Deccan Chargers in 2012 and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2015.
Due to water scarcity in Maharashtra during the IPL 2016 season, the Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants played 3 games each at Visakhapatnam, a neutral venue.
Indian and RPS skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 23 runs off final over against Axar Patel to secure one of the highest chases in T20's at this stadium.
The ACA-VDCA Stadium, Visakhapatnam had hosted its first test match against England in November 2016, in which India won by 246 runs. The current Indian test cricket team skipper Virat Kohli stated this ground as his lucky one as Adelaide cricket ground.
