The 1975 U-Tex Weavers season was the maiden season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
Brief history
Universal Textile Mills, Inc., a company owned by Walter Euyang, was one of the three founding members of the PBA (along with Crispa and Tanduay) whose roots can be traced back in the minor league called Businessman Athletic Association (BAA), a league that competed with the more established Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA) during the 1950s/1960s. In 1961, U-Tex debut in the MICAA and were known as "U-Tex Spinners". In the 1970s, bigger names such as Danny Florencio, Larry Mumar and Rudolf Kutch, join the team. U-Tex was among the nine teams that bolted out of the MICAA to form the PBA in 1975.
First Conference standings
The U-Tex Weavers played in the main game of the PBA's inaugural day on April 9, losing to Toyota Comets, 101-105. Danny Florencio and Larry Mumar topscored for the Weavers with 29 points each. [1] U-Tex finish with a 10-6 won-loss slate in the elimination round and split their six games in the two-round semifinals. The Weavers lost to Crispa, 113-121, in the first-ever playoff for the finals berth on July 22. [2]
