• Scottish-born painter William Aikman settles in London as a portraitist under the patronage of John Campbell, Duke of Argyll.^[1]
• Sculptor Mario Diamanti begins work on the monumental façade of St. Sebastian, Palazzolo Acreide, Sicily.
